You can get pregnant with PCOS

It is true that having PCOS can make it more difficult to get pregnant, but it is still VERY possible. PCOS is the short name for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. PCOS is one of the most common fertility problems and it plagues an estimated 1 out of every 10 women or 10%. Trying to conceive a child can be a stressful situation alone if it is taking a while, and it can be even more stressful and emotionally draining for a women with PCOS.

PCOS is an endocrine disorder in which small cysts form on the ovaries. Women who suffer from PCOS aren’t born with it. However, it seems to be a genetically-linked hormonal imbalance that develops and starts showing signs during and after puberty. It is very common for women with PCOS to have ovulation problems and even go months without ovulating. It is imperative for women to ovulate to get pregnant, and this is why it is hard for women with PCOS to get pregnant. In addition to cycles without ovulation, a woman who suffers from PCOS may have poor egg quality due to her periods being spaced too far apart.

There are quite a few common symptoms of PCOS, however, symptoms are different and may vary significantly from women to women. Some general symptoms include irregular or absent menstrual periods, excessive hair growth, acne, obesity, high blood pressure, and infertility. It is important to remember that having these symptoms does not mean a definite diagnosis of PCOS these are just common symptoms associated with PCOS. If you believe you are suffering from PCOS, a medical professional can help you evaluate your symptoms and confirm or deny a PCOS diagnosis.
If you have PCOS or symptoms of PCOS, don’t give up hope, like I said earlier, YOU CAN STILL GET PREGNANT WITH PCOS! In addition to seeking medical help, there are many natural ways to help enhance and increase your chances of conceiving a child even with PCOS. One major way to combat the effects of PCOS is to make significant lifestyle changes. For example, eating nutritiously, exercising, and maintaining a healthy weight play significant roles in maintaining regular ovulation cycles. It is estimated that nearly 50% of women with PCOS are overweight, and excess weight for someone who suffers with PCOS presents more symptoms and a harder time conceiving. Even a 5% weight reduction can greatly increase fertility by attributing to more regular periods, more ovulation cycles, and stabilized hormone levels. Furthermore, egg quality can also be enhanced by achieving more regular periods; both a healthy diet and various herbs can aid in having and maintain more regular cycles and healthier eggs.

PCOS has the potential to negatively affect fertility, don’t let it affect yours! There are many ways to help enhance your fertility and conceive a child even if you have PCOS. A few women I know who have actually been diagnosed with PCOS have found great help in using natural methods to enhance their chances of conceiving. And, I am happy to report that ALL of them have conceived and given birth to beautiful, healthy babies.

What is a Sperm Allergy?

What is a sperm allergy? Does a sperm allergy affect my chances of getting pregnant? The term sperm allergy has been used so casually that many woman often wonder themselves if they have a sperm allergy. However, sperm allergies are quite rare and only an estimated 2 percent of fertile couples experience some sort of sperm allergy.

A sperm allergy can be defined by someone having an allergic reaction to proteins in either their own or their partner's semen which signals an immune response or allergy. Signs of a sperm allergy include redness, burning, and/or swelling in the area that was in contact with the semen. For many women with a sperm allergy, it usually causes the most discomfort on the outer genital area. A sperm allergy can be hard to self-diagnose because the female reproductive system can be complicated. A woman may suspect a sperm allergy when it could just be a yeast infection or bacterial infection since both may warrant very similar symptoms. If you are experiencing pain after coming into contact with semen, it would be wise to seek medical attention because it could be a sperm allergy or it could also be due to another type of infection.

From a fertility standpoint, yes, a sperm allergy can somewhat affect fertility. Since a sperm allergy usually signals an immune response, white blood cells are dispersed which may attack the sperm and demobilize them so they are not able to successfully reach the female egg. Fortunately, there are quite a few ways to overcome a sperm allergy. Some remedies use natural methods and others require medical intervention. Some popular medical interventions include Protein Desensitization, Semen Desensitization, and Artificial Insemination.

Protein Desensitization – This procedure includes injecting semen proteins into the patient's blood. This process can be time consuming because small doses of the protein from the male’s semen are injected into the blood once every 10-15 minutes for several hours. In order for this treatment to be effective, the patient must be exposed to her partner’s semen at least two times per week.

Semen Desensitization – This procedure is similar to protein desensitization, except semen is injected into the vagina. This procedure is done in a doctor’s office and semen must be injected into the vagina every 15 – 20 minutes for several hours. Also, in order for this treatment to work the patient must be exposed to her partner’s semen at least two times per week.

Artificial Insemination – The male sperm is collected and put through process to remove the proteins causing the female allergy. During this process, a doctor closely monitors the female patient’s reproductive cycle for ovulation. Once ovulation is evident, the doctor will use a thin tube to insert the semen into the uterus.

Women who have been diagnosed with sperm allergies often just use condoms as a barrier and don’t have to worry about the allergy. However, if you are trying to conceive, a sperm allergy may make the process a little uncomfortable but it should not stop you from achieving pregnancy. Medical interventions can be expensive, and some people may choose to seek natural remedies to counteract the allergy. Nonetheless, the decision is yours based upon your own personal preferences.

Lubricant and Pre-Seed

Could your choice of vaginal lubricant be hurting your chances of getting pregnant? Unfortunately, the answer might be yes. Standard lubricants often contain ingredients such as glycerol, glycerin, propylene glycol, and/or mineral oil – all of which can be damaging to sperm. Many lubricants damage sperm motility (ability to move), by creating a barrier that sperm cannot pass through which makes it nearly impossible for sperm to reach and fertilize the female egg. Not only do most lubricants hurt sperm motility some actually damage sperm DNA.

Trying to conceive can often cause extra anxiety, which can actually cause more vaginal dryness, so it is really important to use the right kind of lubricant so you are not hurting your chances of conceiving month after month. There are many ideas out on the internet for helping with vaginal dryness but most of them either damage sperm or are just plain unhealthy or unhygienic. Even doing things such as using one’s own saliva for vaginal lubrication is unfavorable. Not only does saliva have the potential to harm sperm and its motility, it can also lead to infections if the saliva comes from an infected mouth. For example, if a person has herpes, a sore throat, inflamed gums, or oral yeast, etc the infection could spread through the saliva and onto the vagina.

Currently, there is only one lubricant that has been proven to help increase sperm motility while trying to get pregnant and that is Pre-Seed. Pre-Seed contains a sugar compound which provides antioxidant support for sperm, it is also pH balanced to match a woman’s fertile cervical mucus. The makers of Pre-Seed say the product is safe for everyday use, and that it is made with mild, non-irritating ingredients. Personally, I used the Pre-Seed product and was really impressed by its gentleness and quality. I am by no means trying to convince anyone to buy the Pre-Seed product; I just want you to be informed so you don’t have to waste anymore time or money using lubricants that can actually hurt your chances of achieving pregnancy.

What is infertility

Many women feel a sense of hopelessness after trying to conceive for months with no success. They often wonder, "Am I infertile?" The topic of infertility can be tricky to understand, however, it is important to remember there are two parts to the equation, a female part and a male part both of which are essential for conception. Many doctors consider a couple to struggle with infertility when they have not been able to conceive despite active encounters of sexual intercourse for a period of twelve months or more. However, some doctors change this general rule for women over the age of forty and say that after six months of active attempts of sexual intercourse, infertility may be to blame.

The average couple has a 15 - 25% chance of getting pregnant each month the woman ovulates. This means that a typical a couple will successfully achieve pregnancy within four months of active trying. In essence, 40% of couples will achieve pregnancy within the first three months of trying, and 70% of couples with successfully get pregnant after six months. After one year of active, unprotected intercourse it is estimated that 85% of couples will have become pregnant. Next, lets breakdown both female and male infertility factors.

Female infertility can be a little more complicated to pinpoint and diagnose for than male infertility. There are many tests that can be conducted to diagnose or test fertility for females. A few common infertility tests include:

Hormone Blood Tests - These tests measure the levels of certain hormones that aid in the process of getting pregnant such as progesterone, luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), and Prolactin among a few others. This is usually the first step that is taken to diagnose infertility or check for imbalances that could attribute infertility.
Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) - This test basically checks to see if your fallopian tubes are open. A fluid is injected through the uterine cavity and into the fallopian tubes, as the fluid travels it is displayed on an x-ray screen to make sure it has passed through freely. This test can identify blocked fallopian tubes and it can also help clear them out if they may be slightly blocked.
Laparoscopy - A small incision is made under the navel and gas is inserted to help create a space for the laparoscope. During this test, a doctor can inspect the uterine cavity for things such as endometriosis, blockages, and/or irregularities. This procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis so that means you are usually in and out of the hospital the same day.

Male infertility on the other hand is a bit less complicated to diagnose. The main test that is usually done to test for male infertility is a sperm analysis also known as a sperm count. This test requires a man to ejaculate sperm into a container and the sperm is then analyzed at an appropriate facility such as a clinic laboratory. This test will indicate whether the man is producing viable and active sperm and whether he would be able to fertilize a woman's egg with his sperm.
Infertility tests can give you accurate results, but they can also be very expensive. In my infertility situation, I did choose to have all three of the above woman's tests and my husband had the sperm analysis test also. After spending thousands of dollars on infertility tests, we was diagnosed with unexplained infertility which meant that all of my test results were great indicating that there was no medical reason why I couldn't get pregnant. However, after all these tests I found this amazing product called Pregnancy Miracle that I believed helped me to finally get pregnant. This product was a tiny fraction of the cost that I had paid for all the infertility testing, and the difference is... it actually helped me achieve pregnancy unlike the testing. I wish I would have known about this product sooner! I am not discouraging anyone from seeking medical advice but I really credit this product towards helping me get pregnant and it can save you thousands of dollars in testing as well as help you to achieve pregnancy naturally.

Ovulation

People often say “timing is everything” and for ovulation and getting pregnant that is very true. Women usually ovulate only one time per month and if ovulation is miscalculated or not happening at all, your chances of getting pregnant are slim to none.

Ovulation can be tricky to calculate, but for many women it happens right around day 14 (Day 1 being the first day of your period). At the end of my blog you will find an ovulation calculator so you can try to get an estimate of when your most fertile days are. Even though ovulation happens only once per month, most women often have a few days before ovulation and about 24 hours after ovulation when they are able to become pregnant since sperm can live inside the female body for anywhere between 3 to 5 days. This means that if you have unprotected sex three days before you ovulate you may still become pregnant if sperm has traveled to the fallopian tubes.

In addition to just calculating ovulation, it is important to make sure that ovulation is actually happening. Without ovulation you cannot get pregnant. I used Combo Pack of 40 Ovulation Tests and 10 Early Pregnancy Teststo test my ovulation. Ovulation kits in the stores can get really expensive and these strips are very inexpensive, easy to use and were very accurate for me. During my estimated ovulation time from about day 10 of my cycle to day 20, I would do an ovulation test to check for ovulation. I used anywhere from 6 to 10 tests per month but it was worth it. Once the test reads for positive ovulation, there is no need to test anymore because you have then ovulated for the month. I credit the use of ovulation tests as being a major help towards getting pregnant. Some months I would ovulate as early as day 11 and other months I would ovulate as late as day 19 and I never would have known that without the tests. I never really had a very regular cycle anyway but these tests really helped me to figure it out.

My Story of Infertility

Is it taking you way too long to get pregnant? Are you worried that you will never be able to conceive your own biological child? Is the stress of not being able to start a family leaving you feeling completely hopeless? I WAS THERE! Like many women out there I have always dreamed of the day I would become a mother. However, after many long years of painful waiting and riding the emotional rollercoaster of infertility I was able to get pregnant with my beautiful baby girl.

I am not a doctor by any means, but many consider me an expert in this field, and I do have many firsthand accounts and experiences dealing with fertility issues. Here’s my story, I first started trying to get pregnant at the age of twenty, I honestly thought it would happen right away. I thought I’m young, I’m healthy, and I had spent years trying to prevent pregnancy so what would be the reason why I wouldn’t instantly get pregnant as soon as I got off my birth control pills, boy was I wrong! As soon as I stopped taking my birth control pills I started eating and exercising much healthier as if I already was pregnant, I even started taking a prenatal vitamin. However, to my great disappointment a year had gone by with no pregnancy action at all, and I began to wonder “What’s wrong with me? Why can’t I get pregnant?” It seemed like everyone around me was pregnant or announcing pregnancy news. Family, friends, co-workers, and even celebrities were all celebrating baby news, I was depressed. Finally, I went to see a doctor (an Ob/GYN) and he tested my hormones, checked me for PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome), and other fertility issues and finally deemed me as having unexplained infertility. I was terrified, even the doctor couldn’t pinpoint what was wrong. I then went through the trials and tribulations of Clomid, getting monthly progesterone checks, charting temperatures, ovulation tests, and procedures such as hysterosalpingograms or HSG (flushing of the fallopian tubes). In addition, my husband also had to have a sperm count which he wasn’t too thrilled about, but did it to rule out a male infertility problem. However, with all of this medical intervention and not much for results I started combining a little natural intervention as well. I researched books, magazines, and the internet for hours at a time trying to get my hands on anything that I could to help me to conceive. My motto was if it worked for someone, it might work for me and that is how I finally got pregnant!

I truly believe that medical intervention and natural, holistic approaches can both help to lead to a successful positive on a pregnancy test. In my blogs, I will share my many different infertility experiences stemming from both myself and close friends, and I will provide facts and personal information about infertility treatments and other issues relating to trying to get pregnant. I will also share some of the best online fertility help products in my experienced opinion. If you have any success stories relating to infertility and pregnancy, please feel free to add your comments and stories as well.

If I can get pregnant, you can too! Please don’t give up hope. It took me many years to achieve pregnancy but if I would have known what I know now I’m convinced it wouldn’t take me even a year to conceive again, which I plan on doing within the next couple of years. Right now I am staring into the bright blue eyes of my beautiful 3 month old little girl who I never thought I would have and I’m so grateful I FINALLY have her.
